Either my phone fucked up, I fucked up or my service fucked up but I missed a group read yesterday. it's okay, they didn't send me the copy anyway.
And, lo and behold, this morning I had another group read. Without a group. These are weird. So, I just added some muttering stuff at the top and jumped in. I might have sounded too exuberant. It was supposed to a voice in his 50s. I think I sound 28-35. Ah well.

Audition 11 & 12: radio spot / videogame
Got the radio spot when I arrived. Had the game for a couple days.
First the radio: loved what I did, but the director was right: too fucking slow. That's cool. I'd rather start there then speed up than the other way round. Second read, we both liked.
The game...supposed to be the cool, aggressive, assertive confident guy. Came out like the wacky sidekick. Uh....that was stupid.
Cooled myself down. Went to another voice. More confident. Calmer. The opposite of the radio read problem.

Audition 10: Radio Commercial
Ever decide to just have fun and throw caution to the wind? Sometimes everything coalesces and the gods of fearlessness smile.
Fun copy for a major brand. Made more fun by all the stuff I added. If I don't get it, it won't be for not giving a killer read.

Audition 9: Voice Over TV Commercial
So, the specs on this one was to be like a certain character on Family Guy, who is really jewy, but also have a high voice. I pulled out a weird Edith Bunker that I do. I loved it. I did three variations and the booth director said he was gonna send all three. Why not? It's two lines.
Would be great to get it.
I won't. Why? Because it's switcheroo time. The wife has booked her second national on camera in 3 months. Why not? It's time for her to bring in the duckets.

Audition 6, 7 & 8: Voice Over
This was fun, but I know I didn't get any of them.
1 was a reassuring voice for an industrial for dog food. My voice is too nasal to be reassuring.
2 was a cartoon character of a do-gooder cop. Since my go-to default place is contempt and snark I don't think I have a shot at this.
3 came in while I was in the booth. Right in my wheelhouse. Snotty Danny Devito type. Well, it didn't read that way. The booth director thought it might be a Lou Costello but I liked my way and, after hearing it, he loved it. So, there ya go.

Audition 5: On Camera Commercial: UPDATE
National alcohol beverage. Got there early and was brought in to read for a similar yet wrong part. So, I had to wait. And jaw with great guys.
The reading was exactly what I like, a little bit broad, a little fun, not too muggy but not dull. Hope I get called back on this one.
Update: Called back. really easy shit. Could go any way. I liked what I did. Gave them options. I was in there longer than the previous guy. Hit everything I wanted to. Took direction. Was professional. Blah Blah.
Had more fun talking to the CD afterward about the state of the business. But, heck, it's 3 for 3 with on camera this year. Call back wise, I mean.

Audition 4: On Camera Commercial UPDATE
My wife read for this yesterday. It's a celebrity driven spot. We're basically furniture. Still, got nice kudos from the session runner on my performance as the manager of a department store dealing with a return.
But still, furniture.
UPDATE: got a callback for this. Unfortunately, I was asked to improv with a very very old friend. It was awkward for me and I think my fear of being found out for being not quite so talented undid me. I sucked at this one.

Audition 2/3: Voice Over Radio
I signed with a new agency late last fall. It's been great getting in the booth, literally, 20x more often than with any other agency I've been with.
First read was a group, I had to be a eulogizer at a funeral. I think I misread it and went for a more pastor type read. In retrospect, I think it could have been more real. But the breakdown called for what I did, some did it. And got laughs from my guys in the booth.
The next was a father yelling through a rainstorm. I did what I wanted to do. Which was get off mic and yell. Progressively more and more manic.
Probably won't book either, but I had fun.

Audition 1: On Camera Commercial UPDATE
A new year and I'm gonna give this another go.
First day back and first audition of the year. It's a big spot, with a celebrity and a resurrection of a campaign that's been around since, well, the early 90s.
All types of "truck drivers", black, white, doughy, muscular, you name it. A one time star of a prominent lawyer show was there.
No dialogue, all reaction shots but "real, please, real". So much so, that we all had to be brought in for a second explanation to re-emphasize the need for no schtick.
I loved what I did. Which means I won't get a callback or anything.
Or maybe I will. It's a new year. Who knows?
UPDATE: got a callback. Director redirected me 4 times. I think I was too big for him in my palpatating admiration of the celeb star. Whatever.
